The Senate and the House are both in session this week and will continue to work on government funding ahead of the September 30 deadline. Please see the section immediately below for this week's healthcare hearing schedule.
Government Funding... Lawmakers are expected to release the text of a continuing resolution (CR) this morning. The CR is expected to run through November 21, although reports indicate that more conservative Members were advocating for an earlier deadline, so it is possible the CR will run through late October instead. There are also multiple health extenders expiring at the end of the month that many policymakers hope to include in a government funding package. See here for TCG's Health Policy Spotlight with more details on upcoming expiring health extenders.
MAHA Strategy Report... Last week, the Make America Health Again (MAHA) Commission publicized its Make Our Children Health Again Strategy, which defines an executive-branch approach to childhood chronic disease through research and innovation, realignment in incentives and health systems, public awareness and education, and public-private collaboration. The Strategy outlines nearly 100 reforms, regulatory and deregulatory actions, private sector opportunities, and other actions, while heavily emphasizing nutrition, physical activity, and environmental exposures. It also specifies additional priority areas for research, reform, and collaboration, including autism, vaccine injuries, risks associated with SSRIs and other medications, oral health, quality measurement and prior authorization changes in Medicaid, conflicts of interest, transparency, pharmaceutical advertising, and drug innovation and clinical trials, among others. TCG's Health Policy Spotlight on the MAHA children's health strategy can be found here.
